The Factory of Art & Design foundation
FABRIKKEN / The Factory of Art & Design foundation is a production and resource center in Copenhagen, where professional artists and designers work in more than 50 studios and the cathedral-like factory hall.
FABRIKKEN puts a premium on outreach, international exchange and networking. We facilitate artist-in-residence programs, hold the annual Alt_Cph art fair, work with local schools on outreach projects, and much more.
FABRIKKEN is currently facilitating three residency programs: World Wide Air, FAIR and spaced 3. Thanks to generous support from institutions and foundations, artists in residence get free accommodation, a fee and a studio at FABRIKKEN.
Previously, FABRIKKEN also facilitated the programs CPH AIR, Collaborative Research Residency and Paths Crossing.
You can check out FABRIKKEN's previous artists in residence in this archive (mostly in Danish).
Rent the hall
Are you working on a project that needs a lot of space? Rent space in the heart of FABRIKKEN – our 1,000 sq.m. hall has cathedral-like ceilings and streaming natural light. Rent the entire hall or just a corner. Space available on short notice. Read more about renting the hall.
FABRIKKEN’s annual art fair, Alt_Cph, gives visitors a taste of the alternative art scene, while Danish and international art world actors network and swap experiences at a high professional level.
Every year, participating artists exhibit work based on a new, common theme that also embraces the fair’s other activities, including debates, performances and artist talks. Read more about Alt_Cph.
Once a year the Factory invites everyone to Open House so people in the neighborhood, art lovers and others who might be curios can get a look behind the scenes. Read more about Open House.
FABRIKKEN is working to build a strong network in the local community and create a framework for dialogue through art workshops. Since 2009, we have launched a number of participatory art and education projects. A case in point is Tag Plads! (Have a Seat), which gives schools in the Sundholm area an opportunity to become active stakeholders in their community by devising creative urban-space projects together with artists from FABRIKKEN.
Since 2010, FABRIKKEN has served as counselor and partner for Nafasi Art Space – a studio collective and art exhibition space, etc., located in Dar-Es Salaam, Tanzania. Read more about Nafasi Art Space.
