OPEN CALL | FAIR | residency | Copenhagen 2015-16
FAIR | Fabrikken’s Artist in Residence | Copenhagen | Open Call
DEADLINE: July 22nd 2015. Applications for the residency period September 1st – April 30th 2016 will be accepted until July 22nd 2015 (closing time for applications: 4pm).
FAIR is a residency programme at The Factory of Art & Design (The Factory) for artists and curators in the Nordic and Baltic regions. The FAIR programme wishes to provide a space that can act as a catalyst for artistic and curatorial production and practice. Whether it is an ongoing project, research, the very early stages of production or something in between, FAIR will try to support and develop this process through providing a framework within which the guest can put her/himself in play. It is possible to apply either with a project or on the basis of one’s practice. The FAIR programme tries to adapt to the individual curator’s or artist’s requirements and interviews will be made prior to each residents stay in order to ensure this.
As The Factory has the opportunity to provide production facilities, FAIR welcomes production related applications as well as research or network based. FAIR connects the guest with local artists and other art professionals through meetings, openings, our intranet, our weekly communal lunch, and targets specific contexts in which to introduce our guest. During the residency an event (talk or similar) is organized in collaboration with the coordinator of the programme.
Applicants are asked to motivate their decision to apply by explicating why they would like a residency at the Factory of Art and Design in Copenhagen. An affiliation with Copenhagen is not a requirement; we’d simply like to know why you’d like to be here.
The FAIR residency programme welcomes 3-4 artists or curators a year for a duration of 2-3 months each. The FAIR guest receives a monthly grant of minimum 5000 DKK (approx. 675 EUR) plus travel expenses to and from the home country, shared accommodation in Copenhagen, a large studio at The Factory, and the loan of a bike.
The Factory of Art and Design
The Factory of Art and Design is a non-profit artist run institution established in 1994. This former central laundry was built in the late 1930ies and now provides studios and work spaces for professional artists and designers.
The Factory is guided by the spirit of community and resource-sharing, which is nurtured through a generous event programme and of course the all-important communal Wednesday lunches. With more than 70 professional artists and designers sharing the raw industrial building the premise for exchange is firmly founded for the benefit of local as well as international artists.
In addition to the many studios, The Factory contains a 1000m2 production hall, which is used for exhibitions, events, and artistic production. Please visit our website for more information www.ffkd.dk
