FAIR
FAIR
is a residency programme at The Factory of Art & Design for artists in the Nordic and Baltic regions. The purpose of FAIR is to give an international artist the opportunity to work on and realise a smaller project at The Factory of Art and Design. During the residence an event, exhibition project, performance, workshop or similar is organized in collaboration with the curator of the programme.
Applicants are asked to submit a project proposal. It may be a work-in-progress or an entirely new idea and we require that applicants motivate their decision to apply by explicating why they would like a residency at the Factory of Art and Design in Copenhagen. The main focus is placed on artistic quality as well as on the exploration of and experimentation with all kinds of artistic production.
FFKD welcomes 4 artistic practitioners a year (2 months each) and residents are selected by a combination of open call and invitation. The FAIR artist receives a monthly grant of 5000 DKK (approx. 670 EUR) plus travel expenses to and from the home country, accommodation, a studio at The Factory, and the loan of a bike.
THE FACTORY OF ART AND DESIGN
The Factory of Art and Design (FFKD) is a non-profit artist run institution established in 1994. This former central laundry was built in the late 1930ies and now provides studios and work spaces for professional artists and designers.
FFKD is guided by the spirit of community and resource-sharing, which is nurtured through a generous event programme and of course the all-important communal Wednesday lunches. With more than 70 professional artists and designers sharing the raw industrial building the premise for exchange is firmly founded for the benefit of local as well as international artists.
FFKD is located in a highly diverse area of Copenhagen and our neighboring institutions include a homeless shelter, a nursery, a youth detention center, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), and the Faculty of Humanities.
In addition to the 55 artist studios, FFKD contains a 1000m2 production hall, which is used for exhibitions, events, and the construction of large-scale artistic productions. FFKD also contains several workshops, which provide the opportunity to work with wood, metal, and textile. In addition to the workshops, FFKD also has the possibility of providing professional assistance for work production and exhibition mounting; various tools can be provided as well. FFKD runs an active exhibition and event programme that also includes manifestations of work-in-progress and explores different aspects of artistic production.
