FAIR 20/21: Introducing Jonas Liveröd

Artist in Residence – Article in English
In March, the last FAIR resident, Alexandra Hunts, unfortunately had to terminate her stay early due to the worldwide COVID-19 situation. This week, we are delighted to welcome visual artist Jonas Liveröd to FABRIKKEN, where he will unfold his practice during the next three months, as part of The Nordic-Baltic residency program FAIR.
Swedish artist Jonas Liveröd (b. 1974) holds a degree in fine arts from Akademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Enschede, The Netherlands, and lives and works in Ågårdskvarn, Sweden. His work is defined by an on-going exploration of materials and mediums, often focused on – but not limited to – sculpture, drawing and installation. Liveröd has also delved into woodcuts and collage, experimented with materials such as textile, collected images, archived porcelain works, and a range of other bastardized combinations.
Liveröd has published a number of award-winning publications and has in recent years, beyond the limits of his own art, held workshops and lectures on topics such as wunderkammers and collectors, on Failure and on Death culture. He has curated exhibitions with themes on visionary architecture, made a soundtrack for a book, written articles on religions in Rio de Janeiro and esoteric architecture as well as interviewed both collectors and counterfeiters.
In recent years, Jonas Liveröd has had solo-shows at, among others, Gallery Steinsland-Berliner (SE), The Drawing Museum (SE), Örebro Konsthall (SE), Alma Löv Museum (SE), Ystad Museum of Art (SE), Concordia (NL), Hans & Fritz Contemporary (ES) and Haninge Konsthall (SE). He has received numerous awards and grants and in 2015 he received the Swedish Arts Councils five-year working grant.
He is currently showing at Trollhättans Kunsthalle and Landskrona Light Festival, both in Sweden.
Jonas Liveröd also runs his own museum of the extraordinary – ‘The Liveröd Wunderkammer’ which includes the residency ‘Luftslottet’ that is dedicated to collecting, outsider art, altered states and subcultures. During his residency, Liveröd will be further exploring this huge interest in collections, subcultures and ‘Wunderkammer’ visions. He will be spending his time at FABRIKKEN in the coming months, working on a curatorial project revolving around these themes and interests. The curatorial study will also include research and interviews. Furthermore, he will be working on a new book – a Liveröd encyclopedia called ‘Grand Assembly’.
With excitement to follow his artistic process during the next three months, we welcome Jonas Liveröd to FAIR at FABRIKKEN with a few words on the artist, from the Swedish National Encyclopedia:
”Jonas Liveröd’s artistry is characterized by an unrestrained energy, a place where everything from ancient to contemporary myths and rites crashes and mixes in a violent discharge.
His method is mainly focused on drawing, sculpture and installation, but embraces a number of expressions with a large mixture of materials and interdisciplinary excesses, where he also works with text, curatorial activities or what may cross his path.”
