Open Call: Residency for Finnish artists and artists in Finland

NB! The deadline has passed.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 02 APRIL 2021

Applications for the residency period 9 August – 30 September 2021 will be accepted until 2 April 2021.

FIDA is the Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark’s residency program for visual artists. It is operated in collaboration with Fonden FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Design in Copenhagen. The purpose of the program is to build networks between professional artists on the contemporary Finnish and Danish art scenes, and to introduce Finnish or Finland-based artists to a Danish art market.

The FIDA residency program welcomes 1 artist a year for a duration of 2 months. The FIDA guest receives a total grant of 20.000 DKK (approx. 2.700 EUR) to cover living expenses etc., paid return travel (economy only), shared accommodation in Copenhagen, and a large private studio at FABRIKKEN. The Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark and FABRIKKEN oversees the resident’s program including networking activities and introduces the resident in relevant contexts.

Application procedure and criteria

To be eligible for a FIDA residency, the applicant must be a Finnish or Finland-based professional visual artist. The program does not accept Danish nationals or residents of Denmark. The program welcomes applications from emerging to mid-career artists, who can document exhibition experience in relevant art contexts and collaborations with curators.

Applicants are asked to submit a plan for the residency, including a motivated list of agents on the Danish art scene that are of interest to them. FABRIKKEN and The Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark will take the artists’ wishes and interests into consideration when planning the residency.

A jury consisting of artists and curators assesses the applications.

During the residency, a public presentation of the resident’s practice is organized in collaboration with the program manager.

Preparatory skype meetings between the program manager and the artist will be conducted prior to arrival to maximise the value of the residency.
